“Something Sort Of Grandish”

Curtis Granderson
Wow what a game!  The Yankees were trying to make it hard on themselves tonight, but they eventually pulled it out, winning a crazy 6-5 thriller in the 10th inning.  Mariano Rivera had another great moment in his Hall of Fame career, getting out of a no out, bases loaded jam by getting two pop outs and a strike out to get the win.  And that’s not the only thing that wasn’t easy.  In the first inning the Yankees had two runners thrown out on the bases.  New York also hit into five double plays, with a hat trick by Robbie Cano, who fanned in a strike ’em out throw ’em out DP, grounded into a double play, and got Mark Teixeira doubled off first on a long fly ball that was amazingly caught by Gerardo Parra.  The Yanks left 24 on base including seven by Cano, and couldn’t take advantage of 13 walks by Arizona pitchers.  And to top it all off, the Diamondbacks go ahead run in the sixth, and the Yankees run to tie the game in the ninth both scored without the benefit of a hit.  Finally, Curtis Granderson brought a bit of sanity to the game, getting a run the easy way by blasting a homer to put the Bombers ahead for good and allowing Mariano to come in to perform his magic act.  And with that two out of three series win , along with both the Rays and Boston losing, the Yankees move to 2 1/2 games in front of the American League East.  Now it’s on to L.A. and Mr. Torre.  I can’t wait!
